Translated, with notes and supplementary material, by Martha Warren Beckwith from a typed copy of a Hawaiian manuscript (in the Bernice P. Bishop Museum) written in the hand of Bishop Maigret, who seems either to have copied it from an original by the accredited composer, Kepelino, or to have taken it down from dictation. cf. Introd.
